What is your role at The Wholesale Group?
Co-Chairman of the Group with Coral Rose.
What did you do before joining The Wholesale Group?
I was Chairman of Confex from Jan 2019 and also run my own Consultancy business for the last 8 years. Prior to this I was MD at Landmark Wholesale for 16 years, working for them for 33 years. Hit 50 years of working in Food & Drink this year, of which 42 are in Wholesale.
What do you do when you’re not working?
Not much really! Follow Super Luton Town around the country, have 2 lovely granddaughters with a boy on his way, so enjoy them when I can, a bit of a soap fan, Emmerdale and Coronation Street, I know, how sad is that!
If you were able to retire tomorrow, how would you spend your time?
At my age I do really need to think about this one, but I’ve no idea!
Who inspires you?
Difficult one to answer, but I’ve had some great bosses over the years and have always been happy to learn from them. On the football front we have a messiah at Luton called Mick Harford, the man is a king and a legend.
What type of business would you go into if it wasn’t wholesale?
Having done 42 years in Wholesale, who knows, but I’ve never regretted it.
What is the most interesting place you have visited and why?
Been very lucky to travel the World on old Landmark Conferences and Social Events, Not necessarily interesting but memorable include Sydney Olympics the night the World Record Attendance was achieved, and an Aussie won a Gold, that excited the Crowd. South Africa for World Cup, seeing the poverty is startling and emotional, same for holidays in India and Sri Lanka, terrible poverty but amazing Culture. Also World Cup in Japan and South Korea was pretty special. I have family in Blackpool who I visit 1-2 a year, that brings you back to earth with a bump!
What do you like about working at The Wholesale Group?
Early days, but we have a great team, and a fantastic opportunity to make a success out of it, and shake the Market up a bit.
